Summer Lovin’ Happens So Fast

Hooray, Hooray Memorial Day  Weekend is here. Though it is still ‘technically’ spring — this is the unofficial start of barbecues, long days, pool parties and of course, beach days.

Below are some of my must-haves for the warmer months, though in San Francisco, we are gearing up for June Gloom and the need of layers. Alas, I still plan to sport all of these styles, rain or shine, and perhaps with a jacket and scarf.

                                             Summer-Style

Tunic Dress: Basic and fun beach cover up. It’s also nice for a casual night out and even with leggings (if it’s a bit chilly). There are some fantastic looks on Target and Old Navy, though this one is from Calypso St. Barth.

Leather Sandals: Perfect for weekends and those casual office days. Make sure to try them on a few times, since shoes with stripes tend to be painful and even cause blisters. I am a fan of this pair from Shopbop.

Statement Jewels: I am a big fan of Kenneth Jay Lane and recently discovered Julie Vos Designs, which are beautiful pieces with colorful stones. When it comes to stacks, necklaces and earrings, remember to find a balance and out by make one of them stand out, as opposed to wearing it all at once and looking like a child playing dress up.

SPF: A must — I mean, you don’t want to end up burnt or even worse, with premature wrinkles.

Sunnies: Ovals, aviators, Wayfarers — there are plenty of styles to pick from but the ones I am eyeing for the summer are these beauties  by Alexander Wang. OK, these are a little bit over my budget, so I probably going with something a little more economical, like these from Target.

Neutral Everyday Bag: Forget black, for the warmer months, it is all about light colors that blend with the sky. Make sure it is big enough to carry all of the necessities and fun to travel and take on road trips. This one from Dooney & Bourke is quite versatile.

Fedora: Hats are a must for protection, and they are SPF’s best friend. Remember to always wear a style that suits your face and make it blend with your look.

Sleeveless White Shirt and Shorts: Perfect to dress up or down. Though this shirt is from Equipment, there is a button down pretty much for every budget. Zara has a fantastic alternative for less than $50. As for the shorts, IRO has a fantastic pair, but no need to break the bank, since these American Eagle shorties are fantastic!

Wedges: They elevate any sartorialism to a new level of chicness.

What are your summer plans? Any travel adventures? Enjoy this weekend, as I am planning on spending time with friends from Los Angeles and relaxing! After all, that’s what weekends are all about.
