Strutting Wearable Art On The Runways of Milan

Italy is known for its richness in art, personalities and of course, food. But for me, ‘La Bella Italia’ is all about fashion and style and luckily, there was an abundance of all this on the spring/summer runways.

One of the trends that stood out in this city was the interpretations of art on clothes. It was a combination of surrealism, portraits, bold lines an even a little bit of pointillism. They are all fun, pretty wearable, timeless and with a bit of eclecticism, like most Italians.

Jil-Sander-SS14-MFWJill Sander’s Abstracts a la Jackson Pollock : They are fun, colorful and wearable. If you don’t want to feel like a work of art from head-to-toe, just sport them as separates.

Prada-SS14-MFW

Prada Channels Picasso: One of the most talked about collections of the season, Muiccia went back to her artistic roots that were a bit avant-garde and quirky. Nonetheless, the pieces are surely sublime and the dresses will a be standout for any fashionista who is bold enough to sport it.

Missoni-SS14-MFW

Missoni’s Chiaroscuro: The print powerhouse decided to go with light and dark contrasts that are explosive and abstract. Angela Missoni’s creations were deeply inspired by nature, but the combination of textures, colors and different styles made it seem like art — rather than their classic zig-zag prints.

Blumarine-SS14-MFW

Blumarine Goes with Baroque: This suit is like garden party painting that is feminine and delicate. The gold details and texture also add a bit of luxury to the look — as if it’s something you can see at a museum or an art gallery. Though Baroque pieces are known to be ornate and over-the-top, some of the gold elements give that feel, though it a minimalist matter.

Marni-SS14-MFW

Marni Marvels with details: Seductive and romantic, Consuelo Castiglioni delivered a collection that was rather eclectic and inspiring. When I first saw this dress, I immediately thought of surrealism mixed with modern details, as the print almost feels 3-dimentional, yet it’s filled with intricacies that make it so unique.

Ok it’s time to dish — what were your favorites?
