Talking Style With Ella Moss Founder Pamela Protzel-Scott

There is a new babe on Fillmore Street! Ella Moss is open for business and its gorgeous decor, whimsical styles and incredible fashions might transport you to a winter wonderland filled with precious pieces and lots of butterflies — it’s that magical.

This is the place to come for that special holiday party piece or a head-to-toe makeover. I guarantee you, it’ll be tough to walk out with just one piece. (I mean, forget about exiting empty-handed!) They have an exclusive cashmere sweater collection, some hats by Euginia Kim and Vita Fede baubles. Need I say more about fabulous finds?

I chatted with the brains behind it all, Pamela Protzel-Scott, during the opening party last week. When I first saw her, I couldn’t help it but boast about EVERY piece of Ella Moss I owned and when I got it — yup, I was that detailed. The cotton is so soft, the prints are timeless and I’ve had some of these shirts since 2004.

I of course, begged her to NEVER get rid of their signature stripes, because, well they are kind of amazing. They come in an array of colors, fits and will be adored by all pattern lovers.

It was a fantastic night filled with lovely flowers by San Francisco’s own Studio Choo, bites by Culinary Eye Catering and tunes by DJ Ryan Lucero. So many fashionistas came out to celebrate, because yes, welcoming a store this nice deserves a special fete to remember.

Ryzenberg On: What inspired you to start Ella Moss?

Pamela Protzel-Scott: My style has always been influenced by vintage pieces, things I’ve found on my travels, art and music- these influences have served as the inspiration for Ella Moss. I started with just a few knits in fabrics and cuts I wanted for myself but couldn’t find anywhere else – a full collection grew from those few pieces!

Ryzenberg On: What are some classic pieces every gal should have in her closet?

Pamela Protzel-Scott: A great fitting pair of leather pants, an ultra-feminine dress that makes you feel pretty, an oversize chunky cardigan that doubles as a coat and a fabulous pair of heels.

Ryzenberg On: Why the Bay Area? Is there something specific about the style here that appeals to you?

Pamela Protzel-Scott: San Francisco has an exciting shopping scene emerging that we wanted to be part of! Ella Moss is all about mixing and layering styles to create a unique look and I see a lot of this happening in SF style. Plus I fell in love with this store space!

Ryzenberg On: How does Ella Moss represent the California cool aesthetic?

Pamela Protzel-Scott: It’s all about capturing the laid-back sophistication of California living with effortlessly chic pieces. Easy pieces that bring a lot of fashion without a lot of fuss.

Ryzenberg On: What’s the most exciting thing you are looking forward this holiday season and if you could receive one gift, what would it be?

Pamela Protzel-Scott: Most exciting is definitely watching my son Hunter experience his first holiday season and one fabulous gift would be a vacation!

Be sure to check out this fantastic boutique next time you stroll on Fillmore Street. There are some incredible signature pieces, fantastic footwear and the sales gals are super knowledgeable of the brand. I know this will get you in the holiday shopping spirit pretty quickly.
