Ryzenberg On: Valentino Archives Go Digital
When it comes to the color red and ruffles, only one name comes to mind — Valentino Garavani. This feisty Italian, who retired in 2008 from designing, is bringing his beloved pieces to the Internet. Now, anyone can see his masterpieces at www.valentino-garavani-archives.org.
The site will go live on Dec. 12 during a press conference to be held by Garavani and his longtime partner Giancarlo Giammetti. This inside world of all things Valentino, a first of its kind on the web, uses a 3-D technology to showcase nearly 50 years of fashion history. It includes hundreds of fashion shows, 5,000 dresses, sketches and the celebrities who donned those dresses.
These projects expose Garavani to a completely different world; one that includes social media, Facebook and YouTube. Fans will learn from past pieces, the present and the future and they will have an instant go-to reference free of charge and at their fingertips.
The house of Valentino has been around since the 1960s and it epitomizes haute couture. Mr. Garavani has done everything from draping, embroidery, ruffles and even sequins. His cuts are precise, very geometric and more importantly timeless.
Valentino is a staple of many luxurious closets and now everyone can get a hold of his products. They now include shoes, handbags and a more affordable line RED, available at many department stores worldwide.
This will certainly entice other fashion houses to share their visions with the masses, and this eponymous line is certainly at the forefront of this triumphant idea. No need to go to a museum and wait in line — just sit at the comfort of your home and check out nearly 50 years of fashionable magic.
Valentino is showing us (once again) that he is one amazing emperor who knows how to make fabulous clothes.
