Ryzenberg On: The Comeback Bag

While growing up, a baguette was a delicious type of bread often enjoyed during Sunday breakfast with an array of cheeses, meats, butter and jam. In fact, there is a bakery in Lima called ‘La Baguette’ and it’s one of those enclaves that the smell lures you in.

This however, all changed in 1997, when Silvia Fendi introduced one of the most iconic pieces of arm candy known to a woman — the Fendi Baguette. It was a small clutch-like purse that had a short strap meant to we worn from the shoulder.

Well, after Ms. Carry Bradshaw made this lustastic item her to-go bag (hello, remember the episode when she gets lost and the thug takes her Manolos and Baguette?) This became one of the most coveted items of the 1990s — in fact, it can be compared to today’s obsession with the Celine ‘Luggage Tote.’

But if you were too young or financially challenged during the time when the dot com was bursting, Facebook did not exist and cell phones used to flip, you are in luck, because this prized possession is making one heck of a comeback.

There is an anniversary edition (yup, 15 years have passed) and now they come in vibrant prints such as tribal, floral and even bedazzled (BTW — Liberace may come back to grab one of these) and of course there are the classic black one, the monogram Fendi logo and leather. Six of the most memorable styles have been re-launched, and I am sure every ‘it girl’ will want to get their hands on it!

But don’t run to the nearest Barneys just yet, because beaucoup bucks will need to be dropped! They start at about $2,000, because just like everything, their value has sky rocketed!

You will certainly get ‘Carried’ away when you see the latest styles. Heck, you might even make quite the entrance the next time you make a pit stop at your nearest boulangerie.
