Ryzenberg On: Terry’s Latest Tribulation
If your New Year’s resolution is the good ol’ cliche of hitting the gym, you are in for a treat. The latest Equinox Gym ad campaign features more than just healthy models on the Treadmill; In fact, it’s quite racy and far from promoting a body good.
The ads, photographed by one of my favorites Terry Richardson, has scantly clad beautiful people doing anything but working out. They are somewhat sexual (hello it’s Terry, I mean, is the sky blue?) and many feel the ads are showing models that are simply too thin.
Here we go again, but this time, even I get the point. Equinox is well aware of this controversy, after a flurry of comments on their official Facebook page, but this what happens when the campaigns feels more like an American Apparel campaign. (There, I said it) Also, Terry always manages to raise brows, and as a devout fan of his work, this is undoubtedly beautifully shot, but not appropriate for a gym ad that is known to shape up figures more than sell clothes.
Also, I do agree with the other issue raised over the models chosen. They really need to be toned, fit as opposed to thin and somewhat gauntly. Looking at this photos makes want to do anything but get up on an elliptical machine!
