Ryzenberg On: Shalom to Tel Aviv Fashion Week
When it comes to Roberto Cavalli, twice is nice. The designer, known for his larger than life personality and even more statement making frocks, showed his S/S 2012 collection for a second time this week during Tel Aviv Fashion Week.
After more than 30 years in absentia, Fashion Week is returning to the holy land and it’s creating some buzz. With a little bit of help from Italy, Israeli designers, who rarely play a role on the international fashion scene are taking center stage during this event.
Italy and Israel created a partnership after Milan and Tel Aviv became ‘sister cities.’ Both metropolises share a passion for fashion and technology, and this is a perfect way to showcase it.
According to the Jerusalem Post, the Camara Natzionalle della Moda (Italy’s CFDA equivalent) and Ofir Lev, CEO of the Israel Fashion and Textile Association, worked for two years to make this event a reality. Israel plans to host Fashion Week bi-annually in the Spring and Fall.
Let’s just recap that this Mediterranean marvel is no stranger when it comes to beautiful people. Supermodels Bar Rafaeli and Esti Ginzburg call this tiny country home and one of my fashion favorites, Alber Elbaz spent many years there after emigrating from Morocco. The Lanvin honcho even fought for the Israeli Defense Forces!
Mazal Tov and looking forward to many wonderful style ‘simchots’ to come.
