Ryzenberg On: Kate’s Sparkling Christmas

Kate Middleton (once again) stole the spotlight from the Royal Family, and even from Prince Philip, who was recovering from chest pains in a nearby hospital and missed the holiday festivities.

For her first Christmas church visit with the royals, the Duchess of Cambridge wore a plum ensemble by an independent British designer (complete with adorable fascinator by Jane Corbett) and black pumps by Spanish designer Jaime Mascaro.

But it was her drop earrings that left everyone gasping, as the Kiki McDonough green amethysts and diamond hoops were clearly the talk of the town. McDonough, who is known for her semi-precious baubles, also was a favorite of Prince William’s mum, the late and iconic Princess Diana. Kate is a fan of McDonough and sported some of her other designs during a trip to the U.S. and Canada this past summer.

There is speculation these $3,000 sparklers were a gift from the prince, but regardless, they looked fabulous and I am sure designers worldwide are already sketching inspiration pieces for us commoners.

The Duchess is truly one style magnet and a force to be reckoned with when it comes to her sartorial and beauty choices. In fact, she and sister Pippa (more famous for her near-perfect posterior) are on top of a list of 20 beauty icons of 2011, according to a recent poll.

Talk about setting trends and turning heads!
