Ryzenberg On — Iconic all-American footwear: Happy 75th Birthday Bass Weejuns!
You know you wore them in middle school and perhaps made a wish before inserting the penny on the shoe, but the iconic moccasin made by Bass is celebrating a milestone!
The Weejun was created in 1936 and its inspiration goes back to Scandinavian footwear (NorWEEJUNS). Soon after, these kicks have been a staple in every prep school in New England (and well it also made its way to my hood in Lima, Peru!)
I have been wearing Bass shoes since I was 12. I’ve had their Oxfords, (I bought a pair last year for the 3rd time and I adore them) Weejuns and Top Siders (sorry Sperry)
So happy to see this brand resurrect, because every time I wear my Oxfords, I have a sense of nostalgia that takes me back to my pre Doc Marten days!
What I love about this shoe is its versatility. They can be paired up with jeans, a tee (or sweater if it’s winter) and a cute messenger bag. work with plaid skirt, a button down and a clutch for a dressier look. These shoes give any outfit a preppy feel, and you’ll sure be ready to conquer any cute Ivy Leaguer!
Oh and to make this celebration even better, Opening Ceremony is creating a special capsule collection for Bass’ Weejun! Couldn’t be happier and can’t wait to see what they do.
I am sure to check these little gems out and of course, will put my best foot forward!
