Ryzenberg On: High Fashion State Dinner
When it comes to throwing fashionable fetes, the Obamas sure know how to do it. Earlier this week, POTUS and FLOTUS hosted Prime Minister David Cameron and his wife Samantha, and the night turned out to be an affair to remember.
Mrs. Obama opted to wear a blue Marchesa gown with a statement-making necklace by Tom Binns, while the British First Lady went for a long sleeved printed gown by London designer Alessandra Rich. Both looks were rather complementary and, I must say, Mrs. Cameron took a risk considering she wore a bold print and was able to flawlessly pull it off.
Among the other guests who attended this high-powered affair include actor George Clooney (only days before his arrest outside the Sudan Embassy) who looked rather dapper in his tux, and was sure entertaining photographers posing rather playfully for pictures.
Aside from diplomats and government officials, the list also had some stylish attendees, such as fashion’s first lady, Vogue Editor-in-Chief Anna Wintour (a staunch Obama supporter) who wore a perfectly tailored Chanel Dress. Georgina Chapman, half of the Marchesa duo (whom by now we know Mrs. O is a fan) was also present at the event along with her husband Harvey Weinstein.
The theme was ‘America’s Backyard’ as the event took place on a tent in the South Lawn and guests savored a delicious ‘Winter Harvest’ dinner which consistes of halibut with potato crust, a salad with lettuce, cucumbers, avocado, radish and shallot dressing as a started. The main course was bison Wellington with French beans and cipollini onions and lemon pudding for dessert.
British folk band Mumford & Sons performed some of their favorite tunes and in total, there were about 300 guests. Other notables in attendance included British actress Carey Mulligan, Sir Richard Branson and Warren Buffett.
