Ryzenberg On: Au Revoir Lou Lou De La Falaise

Earlier this week, the world bid adieu to one of Yves Saint Laurent’s muses, Lou Lou De La Falaise. This woman, whom the New Yorker once deemed ‘the quintessential Rive Gauche bohemienne, passed away Saturday at the age of 63 in Paris.

De La Falaise made her look seem effortless and chic. As YSL’s muse she wore many of his iconic tuxedo pantsuits, his safari jackets and A-line skirts — they were, of course, always perfectly paired with bangles, pops of colors and her signature headscarf.

De La Falaise was the epitome of Le chic Parisienne and is a force to be reckoned with when it comes to style. She made YSL pret-a-porter during the 1960s accessible, and showed that it too, could be obtained by walking into YSL and buying a trench coat, palazzo pants, rather than making appointments with the aforementioned couturier.

Many Americans also got a glimpse of her impeccable taste through her HSN accessories collection, and again she made fashion seem easy.
