Ryzenberg On: Almodovar honored at the MOMA
Spanish director extraordinaire Pedro Almodovar was honored in NYC by the Museum of Modern Art and Chanel at their annual film benefit and of course this event made the gliteratti shine.
Among those that strutted their stuff were Sarah Jessica Parker, Miranda Kerr, Oscar de la Renta, Calvin Klein, Drew Barrymore, Olivia Wilde, Lauren Santo Domingo and Blake Lively — among others of course.
Even my favorite Bill Cunningham was there, but of course with all of his humbleness he probably didn’t even notice how much of a legend HE is.
Almodovar is a true visionary when it comes to films. His plots are often delightfully convoluted and his often complicated characters offer a sense of cinema verite. One of my personal favorites is of course ‘Women on the Verge of a Nervous Breakdown,’ which stars a very young (and then unknown) Antonio Banderas. It’s a tale of love, gaspacho and shiite revels, but great twists that kept me interested for two hours. Fantastic indeed.
So Salud to Almodovar and so glad he was recognized because he deserves it. The only one I wish I had seen donning some Chanel at the fete was of course Penelope Cruz!
But with that note, I leave you all.
