The films may all be in color now, but when it comes to red carpets, black and white is the trend du jour at the Cannes International Film Festival.
It’s that time of the year when Hollywood (and beyond) crosses the pond to the south of France, making this coast even glitzier than usual (as if that is even more possible). What I like about this particular fashion fest is that there are simply no rules or limits — some events are black tie while other affairs are more casual and laid back — though fabulous baubles are always near and dear to all the celebrities’ hearts.
For someone (moi) that loves color, these black and white looks were hands down some of my coveted picks. They are timeless, elegant, youthful and perfect for this fete.
Emma Watson in Chanel haute couture S/S 2013: Hermione has grown up to be quite the fashionista, and I love it. This it-gal always gets it right and she is a favorite amongst photographers and editors alike.
Jennifer Lawrence in Christian Dior F/W 2013-2014: This Oscar winner continues to dazzle, after a triumphant awards season stateside. This look is sophisticated, but not overly done and plus her new bob mixed in with beachy hair feel is a perfect mix of chic and elegant.
Zoe Saldaña in Emanuel Unagro F/W 2013-2014: Color block, polka dots and a pop of orange. All of the season’s trends done right. Bravo Zoe, for always taking a red carpet risk and creating looks are glamorous and wearable at the same time.
Liya Kebede in Alberta Ferretti in F/W 2013-2014: This dress is so feminine and very elegant. In fact, it could also be a gorgeous wedding gown, especially for a summer soiree and for a bride who tends to be on the fashion forward side.
Claire Julien in Balmain S/S 2013: I have yet to meet one Balmain dress I don’t like! Though the dress was worn a bit different on the runway, I like the summer feel Claire gives this little number. On point with the cut-out trends, it creates a fresh look that’s perfect for a movie screening or a party in a yacht on the Mediterranean.
