Mulberry Spring 2012
London Fashion Week
September 18, 2011Emma Hill, creative director at Mulberry, has created a collection that captures the charm and essence of the iconic British seaside, but with the Mulberry flare. Backstage, Emma Hill described the inspiration behind the Spring 2012 collection: “I’ve been inspired by the classic British seaside! We’re recreating a seventies summer of fun for the new season: I’ve also been inspired by donkey rides on the beach, sticks of rock and the glittering lights of the pier, as well as the classic Englishness of rolling meadows, bright summer flowers such as pansies and nostalgic Scouts’ and Brownies’ uniforms. Add to that our eclectic Mulberry charm and our luxe detailing and you have the perfect mix for spring/summer 2012.”
With the light summery shades of yellow, sheer skirts, sparkling embroidery, prints, and rolled up socks, there is certainly a real feeling of the great British seaside when you read Emma’s inspiration and link the garments to what she has said. The great thing about this collection is that Emma understands how unpredictable the Great British weather can be, so she also included plenty of rain jackets. There was also some garments suitable for the evening, including jewel encrusted shift dresses, jackets and minis. Perfect for when the sunsets and the lights come on, a girls time to shine!
Emma included plenty of tillie’s in this collection, something that Mulberry is known for. As well as a cute little four-legged friend. Being that the seaside is generally quiet windy, the hairstyle looked messy, big, but also rather glamorous. A very structured and well thought-about collection. A favourite from Mulberry.
