Issa Spring 2012
London Fashion Week
September 17, 2011

Danielle Issa Helayel is a fashion designer from Brazil. She has been designing clothes for her label, Issa, for many years now. From time to time you can see inspiration in her designs from her home country (bright colours, tropical prints, and quirky designs) even if Danielle says the inspiration is not from Brazil. For Spring 2012, however, the inspiration for her collection is traced back to her roots. Inspired by Rio de Janeiro and everything that’s associated with it – the carnival, sunshine, colour and nature, Danielle has created a collection full of bright colours, bold and tropical prints, sexy silhouettes, and gorgeous bathing suits.

Even though the general palette along with the tropical and floral prints are fun, vibrant and sexy, the garments designed by Danielle are quiet elegant and sophisticated at the same time. Danielle describes her perfect customer as being The Queen, and I do sense that in some of the designs, Danielle has structured her silhouettes to look feminine, chic and perfect for a Royal occasion. Although I’m not suggesting that The Duchess of Cambridge wears a printed garment to a Royal event, I can see Catherine wearing the garment top right of the photoset for example.

Overall, I thought this was a fabulous collection that makes me think of all the wonderful and exciting goings-on at a carnival in Rio.
