Burberry Prorsum Spring 2012
London Fashion Week
September 19, 2011May I start but congratulating Christopher Bailey on producing such a wonderful Spring/Summer 2012 collection. I feel like Christopher cannot go wrong. Season after season, Christopher steps out of any comfort-zones that he might have, and tries something new. The creative mind of his is outstanding and there’s not many designers out there who constantly try something new and create timeless collections year after year.
The show started off with the most beautiful plum toned full-skirt trench coat. Honestly, when I saw this garment at the start, I was won over instantly. The palette reminded me of Late Summer, early Autumn. We saw shade of green, plum, brown, bronze and navy, among others. There was no bright pink or red, but that wouldn’t be very Burberry. The silhouettes varied throughout. We saw fitting and loose designs. A perfect mix.
Perhaps the greatest thing about this collection is the detailing on the iconic trench coats and parks, including a trench coat with geometric beading along the neckline and the glove-suede parka with a natural bead embroidered crochet raffia collar. Wedges made a big appearance throughout this collection, so expect them to be a top trend for SS12. I can’t forget to mention the bags. The bags alone make Burberry a fortune and who can blame the consumer for purchasing them. They complete the outfit and look totally unique.
My favourite looks in this collection include a cream coloured woven raffia trench coat that has a slim silhouette and embellished collar and a fawn rose full-skirt trench coat made from silk material. My favourite bag (it has to mentioned) would be the large raffia alligator tote. It mixes the gorgeous plum colour with a vibrant geometric check. The detailing is rather delightful.
It’s obvious throughout this collection that Christopher isn’t one for Summer. He featured many thick garments as well as trench coats and parkas. Perhaps Christopher is just being clever and remembers how awful the British summertime is regarding its weather. Or maybe he’s just sticking to what Burberry is known for. I think both is probable or maybe it’s just me. Either way, this collection has been another resounding success for Christopher Bailey and Burberry Prorsum.
