Badgley Mischka Spring 2012
New York Fashion Week
September 13, 2011Structure, shape and elegance were the key features in the Spring 2012 collection from Badgley Mischka. Designers Mark Badgley and James Mischka talk about how their clientèle ask a lot of their designs. “We have to work so far ahead of time that you have to decide what you’re going to do and stick to it — and hope it will resonate. … You can’t take things off course too quickly, but you can’t live in an ivory tower, either. We try to talk to our customers and take their temperature all the time” he said.
So what did we get this season? Brocade dresses, floral designs, plenty of peplums, and metallic clips on the waist. All of which create a beautiful and elegant collection that will appeal to a mass market. The palette featured neutral shades (which were my personal favourites) as well orange, bright pink, teal, and metallic. Such colours are emerging on trend at New York Fashion Week.
Personal favourites in this collection include a yellow and white cocktail dress with crystal embroidery, a neutral linguine-inspired romper with a sheer, full-lace pant, a metallic gown complete with a large bow at the top, and a stunning creamy coloured embroidered mermaid dress with a sheer strap complete with a metallic waist piece.
The jewellery used throughout were minimal. The designers explained how they wanted the palette in the garments to do all the talking, so the jewels were in a muted colour. However they did compliment the garments well. I think this is a great collection full of wonderful looking gowns and day dresses, perfect for any formal occasion. It speaks more to me then the previous SS11 collection simply because the garments had more structure, it fitted the silhouettes a lot better, and peplums are big favourite of mine.
