Admit it, you can feel fall coming. Since San Francisco’s so-called Indian Summer sometimes doesn’t overstay its welcome (that’s simply because Karl the Fog is always lingering), now is the time to fall forward with some new cooler weather sartorialisms.
Say hello to cozy knits, my beloved cords and some richer hues, as these items prepare to take center stage for the next few months. Already missing those summer crop tops, florals and bright styles? Don’t fret, as there is always a way to incorporate them into your looks.
Check out some of my must-have picks for the 2013 fall season:
1. Cableknit Sweater: This is a perfect piece that will keep you warm and stylish. Gap, Madewell and TOPSHOP all have a fantastic selection this season. Feeling like splurging a bit? You can never go wrong with cashmere.
2. Corduroy: My favorite fabric and its peaking time is fall indeed. This pair from Seven for all Mankind will be a perfect wardrobe addition and you can even get a few in many shades of gray.
3. Stylish hat: Fun, fabulous and an easy accessory that spices up any look. This is perfect for those not-so great hair days or to add a bit of pizzazz to any look — day or night. Check this one out from BCBG.
4. Trench coat: You never know when showers are going to make a cameo. This is perfect for the chilly mornings and chic for a night out. Oh yeah, and did I mention how sexy and ladylike they are? Since this is the coveted Burberry Prorsum coat from their latest collection and is a bit on the steep side, here are a few more frugal finds from Guess and Calvin Klein.
5. Sunglasses: A good pair is always a must, and though some of my fellow bloggers opt for more disposable pairs, I say go and find the perfect frame for your face, even if it means spending a bit more. Also, look for something classic, like an oval-sized or aviators. Right now, I am absolutely jonesing for this Michael Kors pair — and it’s less than $100.
6. Cozy blanket: For those days where getting out of the coach is all that’s on the agenda. Make sure it’s soft, fluff and warm. Isn’t it delightful with a cup of hot apple sider and some rhubarb pie? My pick goes for this gray one from H&M, which I am sure will even come handier during winter.
7. Scented candles: Diptyque always wins my heart and this eucalyptus blend is simply divine. It will leave your entire space with a forest feel without all that crazy synthetic smell some other products (especially oil-based) tend to leave.
8. Combat boots: These styles take me to my Doc Martens-stomping teenager years. They are comfortable, easy to wear and versatile, as they work with leggings, skinny jeans, dresses and skirts. Perfect with a warm-hued beanie and a knitted infinity scarf. This Steve Madden pair is indeed timeless.
9. Large tote: Totes are the perfect dayside purse to carry around. It’s compact, has a lot of pockets and it’s also a chic alternative that works well on a commute. This Loeffler Randal has a gorgeous blue texture and some edgy studs, but if you are looking to save a bundle, Liz Claiborne has a fantastic everyday tote that even resembles the ultimate luxurious Céline Luggage Tote quite nicely.
10. Playful jewels: Sometimes the way to go is to keep the clothes simple and to add some glitz with jewels. A bold bracelet, some earrings and a chunky necklace sure transform an outfit and adding glitter is always a plus.
