From The Oscars to the Parties — My Top Three Picks Pre & Post Affair

Another awards season is in the books and it ended with the granddaddy of them all — the Oscars. Though it was a relative ‘tame’ red carpet, there were still some unforgettable looks that are sure going to leave a mark for years to come. Bold lips, shaggy hair, sparkles and blushes were some of the trends I enjoyed, but though they were careful crafted and perfectly displayed, it wasn’t anything I hadn’t seen before — In all honesty, I wanted to be wowed!

Below are my top three picks that nailed it on the red carpet and during the party circuit. I often wonder how stylists scramble to dress their star inside of a limo or grab the squad to carefully change up their getup. Bravo to these teams for making it all seem effortless — though in reality it takes a village to create such perfect sartorialisms.

I spent a good amount of time analyzing Oscar looks and was very pleased with the getups sported during the after parties. Lots of prints, daring necklines, cutouts and other styles that will certainly make an appearance on this dog-and-pony show.

Of all of the bevy of beaties, you ask, why these three? Because these three women exemplify what glitz, glamour and movie stardom appeal is all about.

Emma Stone in Ellie Saab for the Oscars & Altuzarra for the Vanity Fair soiree: Petra, you are a genius. See, Petra Flannery is the mastermind behind the Oscar nominated star’s looks and in my eyes, she never gets it wrong. Emma is the type of gal that exudes glamour, yet she isn’t afraid to take a risk. She wears color, slits, prints and bears a lot of leg with plenty of grace and confidence. Seriously, both looks are perfect, since the latter one is a fantastic frock for a night out on the town (even if it includes most of Hollywood’s elite) — Well done , P and an A+ overall.

Margo Robbie in Saint Laurent for the Oscars & Dior for the Vanity Fair party: I mean seriously? That little number epitomizes red carpet chic and hello plunge line. The whole aesthetic had a retro feel that mixed in art deco and Michelle Pfeiffer circa ‘Scarface’ and it was fantastic. The side bob and bold red lip finished up the look in utter glam. I can see this style being emulated in many black tie affairs to come (with perhaps a more modest cleavage). As for the later events, this Dior number is playful and though it is not as much as a showstopper, it’s still youthful and age-appropriate for this budding bombshell.

Lupita Nyong’o in Calvin Klain for both the Oscars & the Vanity Fair party: A vision in white. There, I said it. I know Ms. Nyong’o received some slack this awards season for not wowing fashionistas, but to me she gets it right most of the time. She is a bonafide style maven, often wearing pieces that are off the runway and one-of-a-kind but she, like Ms. Stone, isn’t afraid of taking a risk. The white gown fits her toned physique to a ‘tee’ and is the perfect pick for a winner. This red carpet was filled with white and light tones, but pearl-embroidered dress stole the show; at least in my opinion. The latter dress is a fantastic, yet not as dramatic, pick for the celebratory soirees, since it’s still timeless, yet simple and elegant.

OK, time to dish in…what were your thoughts on this year’s Oscars? Did you like NPH? Were you bored in the middle or did it leave you wanting more? Do tell and do share. Since I saw so many fantastic trends this awards season, I will be bringing more posts related to this glitzy affair because there is too much to document!
