Crop Tops Make the Cut for Spring 2014

Tis the season to fall forward and we are skipping the cold months and going straight to the heat of the moment — at least in New York City and Lincoln Center.

Ruffles, florals and bright colors are quite abundant on the catwalk, but one trend that is taking every fashionista by storm is the crop top. Despite its limitations (we know it’s not for everyone) it is fun to see it back — though I know I will need to hit the gym if I plan on sporting it any time soon.

Every designer from Tommy Hilfiger, Derek Lam, DVF and even Monique Lhuillier are all about cutbacks and gave it their own spin. Personally, I liked the Rag & Bone looks that remind me of my 1990s teenage years. Though I figured this trend was on the fast track for a comeback, it thrills me to see it rock the runways. I also liked Alexander Wang’s top interpretations and even his graphic tees are on par with the feel.

Throughout this month, I will share a few of my favorite sartorialisms straight from the catwalk! I anxiously look forward to what the Brits and Parisians have in stock, though the Italians sure know how to create a masterpiece. As for the Big Apple, so far every designer has mesmerized me a bit.

Peter Som: Stripes, black and white, prints & abs — four trends in one! While this look is rockin’ from head-to-toe, you may want to start grabbing a gym membership to get in shape now.

Lacoste: This is for the preppy gal with an edge. Classic, clean and fresh — perhaps the one that likes to hit the tennis courts in the morning.

Rag&Bone2014

Rag & Bone: Looking at all this takes me back to 1994 — oh that year when Clinton was president, the Internet was on its infancies and my blog consisted of a daily diary where I wrote about my crushes, Kurt Cobain and civics homework. With all that said and done, those are all fond memories and I wouldn’t mind going back in time!

DKNY: Vibrant — that’s all I can say about this and of couse, how much I like it!

Tommy Hilfiger: Fun and very reminiscent of those late 1980s, early 1990s styles at West Coast skate parks and boardwalks. For some reason, it makes me want to wear it all while strolling Venice Beach (after, of course an intense workout along side flex aficionados in Muscle Beach!)
