Color, Glamour and Sparkle: My Picks for the 2014 Golden Globes

The holidays have quickly come and gone, and for Tinsel Town, this only means awards season is here. Celebrities prep by  getting their beauty on, while stylists wrestle to win the coveted ‘belle of the ball’ honor and have their clients step out in style.

The Golden Globes mark the start of 2014 red carpets and the ladies and dapper gents surely didn’t disappoint. The night was filled with gorgeous gowns, metallic textures, a rainbow of color, blinding baubles and of course, some unforgettable looks.

Below are the elite eight looks I felt were a slam dunk — as they were all original, elegant and perfect for the fete.

LADIES IN RED

Always a popular color for award shows, these gals know to rock a red carpet with many shades of red.

Lupita-Nyong’o-Golden-Globes

Lupita Nyong’o in Ralph Lauren: This red number is pretty much the talk of the fashion world today. This new gal on the block sure knows how to make a dazzling entrance and this is one gown that few people can pull off. It absolutely reminded me of Gwyneth Paltrow’s 2012 Tom Ford white cape. Bonus? The understated studs and minimal makeup.

Amy-Adams-Golden-Globes

Amy Adams in Valentino: This look is very reminiscent of her wardrobe in American Hustle, where she wore a variety of low-cut dresses, no bras and lots of authentic DVF from the 1970s. The color block is exquisite and like Lupita, Amy also opted for simple jewels and makeup.

Julie-Bowen-Golden-Globes

Julie Bowen in Carolina Herrera: So far, I have seen mixed reviews on this look, but she had me at hello! The color combination is fantastic and love the velvet clutch that matches the bodice. Yes, some people thought the shoulder pads are a bit much, but Claire Dunfy can pull off this ensemble flawlessly.

THE GUCCI GANG

Mamma Mia Frida Gianini! All the ladies donning her designs were pretty much a vision, as they were sparkly, fitted and full of intricate details. Olivia Wilde’s pregnancy glow was evident in her sequined gown as she was radiant.

Margot-Robbie-Golden-GlobesMargot Robbie: Since I haven’t seen ‘The Wolf of Wall Street’ yet, I was not familiar with her body of work, but what a difference a day makes. This 23-year-old from down under looked like a vision in white in this embroidered low cut dress. I think the silhouette does wonders for her curves and if this is the beginning of her Hollywood reign, I can’t wait to see what else she sports.

Mila-Kunis-Golden-GlobesMila Kunis: Ms. Kunis has been a favorite of mine for a few red carpets now, as she knows how to mix sexiness with that ‘je ne sais quoi’ feel without trying too hard. This look goes perfectly with her hair color and the makeup nails it. Oh yeah and very importantly, this is exactly age appropriate — as it’s not too old or too juvenile.

OLD HOLLYWOOD GLAMOUR

These women know a thing or two about putting on the glitz, as they are veterans of red carpets. Cate-Blanchett-Golden-GlobesCate Blanchett in Armani Prive and Chopard Jewels: This Armani Prive number makes her look so regal, as this look will be one that many will remember. It is timeless, elegant and it just seems like something a gifted actress would wear.

Kate-Beckinsale-Golden-Globes Kate Beckinsale in Zuhair Murad: A couple years ago, I saw Kate at Barney’s in Beverly Hills and was stunned by her beauty, despite wearing ‘civilian’ clothes that consisted of jeans and a white tee. Long and behold I had to come to the simple conclusion that she is not human – because nobody can look this perfect all of the time. I mean, seriously, everything about this look is magnificent.

Sofia-Vergara-Golden-Globes

Sofia Vergara in Zac Posen and Lorraine Schwartz jewels: You know I always include this feisty Latina in my roundups because she simply always gets it right. Though she is not exactly a risk-taker, she knows what works with her curves and does it right. You can tell that this Zac Posen gown makes her feel like a million bucks and that statement necklace — well that’s just perfection.

What were some of your favorite looks? Do tell, do share!
