It’s a surreal experience to be in the same room as a fashion icon, and I must say Betsey Johnson is a whole lot of woman in person. Her vivacious personality, unexpected antics and inspiring stories sure are a hoot, and now you can see it all on her new Style Network reality show.
Since we are both fellow Syracuse alums (in fact, she was a cheerleader), I enthusiastically raised my hand and asked her during the Q&A with Lucky Magazine’s Lori Bergamotto about her thoughts of our alma mater’s appearance in the Final Four. Let’s just say shortly after my inquiry, the room went silent and she had a look in her face as if I was asking her about the Benghazi attacks. I was MORTIFIED; felt humiliated to say the least. Luckily she is so spontaneous, admitted she is not too big into sports and alas, did a cheer for the crowd — I was saved by her charisma indeed.
XO Betsey Johnson is a candid glimpse of Betsy’s life while she deals with her hits and misses, her daughter and new ventures. So far, the first episode showed how her empire hit rock bottom and she was forced to file for bankruptcy and close her stores. Luckily, her good friend Steve Madden bought out her debt and is helping her restore her status in the industry.
I love her style and her joie de vivre approach to life. Her spirit is electrifying and I must say, it does make for good TV. Be sure to catch new episodes of this new series on Sundays at 8pm.
