A few weeks ago, Charlie and I checked out the amazing Broad Museum, in the heart of Grand Avenue and within walking distance of great restaurants, shops and bustling DTLA.
I got tickets back in September when the museum officially opened and it’s pretty much packed every day (and weekend), as it’s quickly becoming the destination de rigueur for Angelinos and art aficionados. I cancelled all my plans, declined holiday invites and spent an afternoon at the museum.
What I liked about the Broad was its extensive collection of modern and contemporary artists, like Jeff Koons, Andy Warhol, Jean-Michel Basquiat, Keith Haring, Takashi Murakami, and younger artists and photographers. It’s easy to wander off the two floors of gallery space, because there are plenty of corners, micro exhibits, and little hiding spots worth checking out.
Sadly, I didn’t have enough time to check out Yayoi Kusama’s ‘Infinity Mirrored Room,’ but now I have the perfect excuse to come back and check out the gallery again, because when admiring art, each time is a whole different experience!
They also have a fantastic gift shop, as it’s filled with local makers like Sisters of Los Angeles and carries a nicely curated array of books, jewelry, art pieces, and toys. Hungry for more? Visit the newly opened Otium Restaurant offers a nice selection of local and seasonal flavors by Chef Timothy Hollingsworth.
Of course, I had to take advantage of the fantastic exteriors, so I did an impromptu sartorialism shoot with my favorite cardigan, a pair of comfy (but very old) booties, and my go-to pair of jeans — the perfect Sunday Fun day look.
